Maths and reading challenge. Read our Bandaid poem. Challenge how many band aids did the author have

Some chose to help keep track with materials, like crayons or maths equipment.

Some circled or highlighted the important information in the poem.

We worked with buddies.

Some used tally sticks and could write an explanation for how they solved the problem.

We drew a chalk character with all the band aids and his extra 35 band aids.
Children shared how they counted in twos and fives to solve the problem.

Miss Hunicutt and I were impressed with how many strategies children used to solve the problem, how well the y worked with a buddy and that children didn't give up, even when their answer may have been wrong several times.
Children enjoyed the challenge and wanted to complete the activity with the correct answer.  But the process was equally important!

Learning and crafting our writing

Making sentences with  adapted Jenga blocks.

Movement break, spelling our WOW word.

Checking to see if we have achieved our goal.  Highlighting our success!

Re reading to check that my writing makes sense.  Learning to make changes when I need to.

Science in a van wowed us with science and really big bubbles

Big bubbles
Flying toilet paper and a leaf blower

Reading activities today 10th May

We are learning to read essential words by playing a memory game.

We are learning about alphabetical order.

We are learning to answer comprehension questions by going back to the book.

We are learning to read with expression.  This week we have a play, The Ugly Duckling.

Walt describe our mums and give reasons for our ideas. Happy Mothers Day!

First we wrote personal messages to our mums.

Then we typed them on the computer and made them into heavy messages.

Next we took photos of us climbing on a wall.

Next we used an APP called Pic Collage to clip around the photos to remove the background before printing it.

Then we cut it out, ready to put on our Mother's Day Card.

Next we showed each other how to put the background of our cards together.

Finally, our cards were ready to give to our Mums.  Happy Mother's Day.
